Polly Pope is a leading New Zealand litigator with an impeccable commercial pedigree. As a barrister she is driven by helping her clients solve their most complex problems, and as an arbitrator she is driven by providing an efficient, fair and binding resolution to commercial disputes.
Polly moved to the independent bar after over a decade as a partner at leading commercial law firm Russell McVeagh, including a term as Chair of the Partnership. This experience allows her to bring a highly commercial and strategic approach to her work. She thrives on being in the courtroom, but her focus is on outcomes for her clients.
Polly has particular expertise in commercial, construction, insolvency, and financial regulatory law. Polly has been instructed to act in matters in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, as well as arbitrations, adjudications and mediations. Polly is frequently appointed to resolve disputes as an arbitrator and adjudicator. She trained as a mediator at the Caruso School of Law at Pepperdine University.
Polly undertakes pro bono work with Community Law Centres through Te Ara Ture. She has been a member of the Faculty of the NZLS CLE’s acclaimed Litigation Skills course since 2015, and co-founded Women in Restructuring and Insolvency. Polly is a member of Global Women. Outside of the office, she can be found at the Piha Surf Lifesaving Club.
